REVIEW – ROSKO, BREED, THE TRUSTED, VIVACITY @ CHINNERYS 10/08/2018

“At last, Rosko have finally decided to grace a local stage like Chinnerys. Not only that but they bring with them a support roster packed with treats.

vivacity

Kicking off proceedings is VIVACITY who have brought a massive crowd who lap up their pleasingly epic alt-rock. Despite their youth, they are demonstrating an ambition beyond their years. Definitely ones to watch.

trusted

When I saw THE TRUSTED about a year ago, they sounded like a promising band with some good ideas. Cut to today and the transformation is incredible. This is now a fully realised, highly competent and engaging indie behemoth that could compete with the likes of Kasabian or The Courteeners. Performance-wise they exude the stage presence of seasoned pros. Their soaring songs are lean, exciting, and reveal a developing sound that is entirely their own. Very impressive stuff!

Disaster strikes when seemingly every single person under the age of 18 seems to leave the venue. When you pay £7 for a ticket to a show and decide to only see one or two of 4 acts playing, I find this staggering. I know it’s the school holidays but it’s only 9:30pm – stay up past your bed time for goodness sake! This is rock n’ roll!

Breed

Not that this is a problem for BREED who power through their high octane, riff heavy set with the kind of showmanship you’d reserve for the last gig of your life. Instruments destroyed and minds blown, they stagger off the stage clearing the way for our headliners.

ROSKO have been lauded for their energetic live shows and I was keen to sample this myself. Not only do they deliver again, but they also inject the experience with a humour and charm that is instantly endearing. As a genre mashing band, it’s easy to get lazy when describing their music (like a kind of Arctic Monkeys tinged grime band?), but more than anything this is vehicle for four enigmatic characters to surprise you, make you dance and bring the party!

Youth Club announce new tour in support of new single ‘Our Love’

Youth Club‘s new single ‘Our Love‘ dropped earlier this month. The Southend indie popsters have never been ones to shy away from amplifying their sound with synths in the past, but this latest single is an electronic tour de force. Leading with glorious arpeggiated synths and continuing with thick satisfying pads throughout, they’re reinforcing their prerogative as one of the finest pop song writers in the southeast.

Their hometown Chinnerys shows are things of legend, regularly selling out and showcasing some of the best acts in the area. So Youth Club‘s announcement of a November tour is music to our ears. Tickets go on sale on Friday 20th July, so don’t miss out!

Big new single from Rosko – Riches to Rags. Get this in your ears!

Rosko are back with new single ‘Riches to Rags‘ that elevates their boisterous lad rock to grimey new heights.

Rosko have been cementing themselves as darlings of the London circuit with a string high octane performances over the last few months, even gracing the stages of Reading Festival for the first time in their career. 2018 is proving to be an eventful year for them as well, securing a great little slot at Isle of White Festival with the likes of Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly and Asylums.

Rosko’s new single ‘Riches To Rags’ is available right now.

In The Park Festival 2018 – Southend Who Preview!

With many Southenders feeling down about the lack of Village Green Festival this year, In The Park Festival at Garon Park this Sunday is the perfect event to fill the void!

With big hitters like Marc Almond, Heaven 17 and Big Country gracing the main stage, there’s already a lot to love about this lineup. However what really piqued our interest is the quality of the second stage, featuring the cream of our local crop.

Here’s our take on who you should definitely be checking out this year!

MEGAN ROSE27544595_1131943456908001_8271387881100291399_n

Make sure you get down early for the beautiful voice of Megan Rose! The young singer songwriter has been making waves recently, playing to her biggest crowd yet at Southend United FC‘s end of season game last month. Her folk/country is effortless and completely captivating. Definitely one to watch!

‘What Went Wrong’ is the new single from THOMA. But there’s nothing wrong with it? FAKE NEWS!

“Clued up Southend gig goers will likely already be aware of the pop force that is THOMA. Tom Johnston has not only supported Youth Club on their recent run of sold out shows in London and Southend Chinnerys, but has recently recorded his latest upcoming EP ‘Bouquet’ at SS2 Recording, with YC drummer Rees Broomfield behind the mixing desk.

The result is a very pleasing blend of ambient pop and electro. There are Sam Smith comparisons to be had here, but with the polished YC pop production ladened through the layers, this is very accomplished stuff indeed. THOMA‘s latest single ‘What Went Wrong‘ is chilled and really showcases Tom’s incredible vocal range. This man has soul. No question about it. What went wrong? You really should be asking what went right!

The ‘Bouquet EP’ drops in June. We can’t wait for it if this banger of a single is anything to go by.”

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly return to Chinnerys this Saturday. Here’s why you shouldn’t miss out on their best live show to date!

One of the most unexpected but joyous things to happen last year was the return of Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. Having hung up the cape in 2014, few could have foreseen that there would be a 6th studio album. But Young Adult is here, it’s Sam Duckworth’s best work to date. It features a collaboration with Shy FX, as well as the huge singles Adults, VHS Forever and Animate. We’re so glad to have him back!

Hands down, the current lineup for GCWCF is the best it’s ever been. Sam’s band now features Southend’s very own Lydia Kitto, the rhythm section from Pocket Dragon and Linda Burrato who plays guitar for Kate Nash. Add to the mix a full brass section and you have simply one of the most exciting live shows to come out of Southend. The Independent recently heaped high praise on Get Cape’s last London headline show, filled with the perfect blend of old hits and new hits.

2018 has proved to be a rejuvenation for Sam and friends. Get Cape are supporting Frank Turner at The Roundhouse next week, as well as a full festival run including a high billing slot at Isle of Wight Festival in June. With promises of more exciting festival and tour announcements soon, now is the perfect time to see Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, so why not see them right here in Southend at Chinnerys this Saturday?

Support comes from Sean McGowan and The RPMs, with tickets available right here. It’s the best ticket in town, you won’t regret it. These are the moments that we’re living for!

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly play Chinnerys on Saturday 12th May. Tickets available at SeeTickets right now.
Young Adult is out now on iTunes.
