It’s no secret that the Southend clubbing scene is a polarising subject. Some people are glad that the big clubs are closing, in favour of trendy bars and restaurants. Other people are frustrated that the big clubs are closing, in favour of trendy bars and restaurants.
The real people hit by this (other than of course Southenders) are the promoters who try and bring a variety of fantastic club nights, bringing us a whole spectrum of genres geared to get us dancing at the weekend. The struggle is real for party organisers.
Thankfully a crack-shot team of skilled DJs are here to keep the party alive. Led by Gully B (the alternative guise to John The Baptist), Pull Up! has been bringing the carnival vibes for nearly 4 years now. What started out as a loud sweaty party in the basement of The Old Hat (RIP) has become a highly acclaimed rave that demands your attention. Their carnival parties are becoming legendary. They now have a home on Funky SX Radio slot on Thursday evenings, bringing you Dancehall, Soca, Reggae, Afrobeats. All things Carnival basically.
Their next party will be held at The Market Place, taking the sounds of Notting Hill Carnival to a dark booming basement, with their new 6000 Watt Pull Up Soundsystem. Gully B, Barretta, Andy A and Stonefish will have special one off dubplates from artists like Konshens, General Levy, Stylo G and Toots & The Maytals. It’s going to be insane.
Tickets can be bought right here.
Pull Up‘s Barretta has given us an exclusive mix of what to expect from his set on the evening. Get this on your speakers immediately.
