Doozer McDooze’s crazy ebay album project!

Well this IS interesting.

Doozer McDooze (the main man behind DEFERRED SUCESS) recently engaged in a unique experiment.
Doozer put on Ebay the chance for people to write a song about anything they wanted. All they had to do was make sure they won the bid. I don’t think anyone has ever done this?

The result is actually a great eclectic mix of insane folk/rap/poetry, about a vast array of subjects, from Terry losing his car at Glastonbury to Kevin’s pride and joy caravan breaking down. There are some beautiful songs here, and some very funny. Our favourite is the reggae flavoured ‘Chequers Check It Out!’ about the best pub in Billericay.

You pay as much for you like for this 12 track album at Doozer’s BANDCAMP PAGE. Give him lots of money. Go on. Do it.

WHOLE SICK aka Justin Reid-Simms is best known in Southend as one of THE KOOL KIDS KLUB residents. What few people realize is that he honed his skills whilst studying in Nottingham, and is a big hitter in the midlands also, DJing alongside TOMB CREW at they’re infamous My City Is For Pimps monthly party.

Justin has just finished his debut EP ‘A Little Louder’ which is released through SOUNDS OF SUMO RECORDS this week.

His impressive debut of big bass and tight grooves can be purchased HERE.

Basildon/Pitsea/Canvey Island based 4 piece COURTS have released 3 free downloads on their Soundcloud page. Crowd favourite ‘Cross Arms’, and two remixes from WHITE VISITATION, and Glitch resident JOHN THE BAPIST.

They don’t plan on having these up for very long, and are deleting them from the internet soon. So download these quick, as their unique indie dance fusion is really quite special. Think Vampire Weekend with the punch of Foals.

Sam Duckworth New Solo Project!

sam duckworth

SAM DUCKWORTH has been busy writing a new album since his 3rd Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly album that was released September last year on Cooking Vinyl. This time he’s releasing it under his own name.

The Mannequin represents a change of direction for Sam, branching away from his usual style with GCWCF and creating something a bit more ambient and experimental, but still packed with character. He’s put 3 tracks up at www.samduckworth.co.uk for you all to have a listen to.

He is playing The New Cross Inn in London on 14th April, and there will no doubt be more shows to promote this exciting new project.

Interview with THE SAM I AM from 2006

THE SAM I AM

THE SAM I AM, or BOUDICA as they later became were a great genre-bending rock outfit, fronted by Natasha Fox and completed by Daryl Tattoo, Mark Saunders (now playing bass for Florence + the Machine no less!) and Toby Gore.

This lot slotted in with the heavy melody of bands at the time quite nicely, but what set them apart wasn’t just the angular guitars and thundering presence that comes with being super tight, but also the genuinely spine tingling vocals of Fox. Dramatic and almost operatic, but still retaining a sweetness and a vulnerability, they really were something else. I remember it was always a massive surprise for people new to the band to see such a massive voice emanating from such a pretty small girl!

Alas they have since disbanded. Natasha has done guest vocals for Redtrack, and currently Natasha and Daryl are working on a new project. We shall hopefully see the fruits of this sometime this year!
